Concurrent with our CLABSI rate increase, there were multiple criteria changes to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) laboratory-confirmed bloodstream infection (LCBI) definitions” Sams et al (2017).
Background:
Our facility’s central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) rates have been increasing despite strict adherence to evidenced based insertion practices, maintenance care bundles, and other performance improvement initiatives such as staff competency, product implementation, and defect in care analysis for each CLABSI event. Concurrent with our CLABSI rate increase, there were multiple criteria changes to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) laboratory-confirmed bloodstream infection (LCBI) definitions.
