Neonatal PICC complication

Extract:

“Cardiorespiratory compromise due to hyperalimentation fluid extravasation caused by a peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) that migrated into the mediastinum was reported previously. We highlight a similar complication associated with PICC in a neonate. A preterm baby (26 weeks, weight: 800 grams; height: 30 cm) required total parenteral nutrition. A radioopaque central venous catheter (1Fr size) was inserted through the left saphenous vein.”
