"The topic of phlebotomy reduction to benefit patient care has been tirelessly described in the literature under different optimizations" Onuska (2021).

Abstract:

The topic of phlebotomy reduction to benefit patient care has been tirelessly described in the literature under different optimizations, such as reducing fixed draws for specific departments (1), reducing inappropriate laboratory test orders (2), or utilizing smart ordering practices (3), all of which lead to phlebotomy savings. However, because instruments and methods change over time, it is sometimes forgotten to review and optimize tube collection types on the basis of methodology alone. This identification and optimization process will be discussed.
