Abstract:

The ESVS has, for the first time, published clinical practice guidelines for health care professionals involved in the care of patients with vascular access (VA) for haemodialysis (HD).1 This is an important first step but there is room for improvement. Guidelines help us to evaluate current evidence for choosing the best management strategies for patients needing VA or with VA problems. Multiple versions of VA guidelines have been published before by the European Renal Association,2 the Vascular Access Society, and the American National Kidney Foundation, Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative NKF/KDOQI.
