Abstract:

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), often referred to as simply Saudi Arabia, is the largest Arab state in western Asia, with borders on the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea (see the Figure). It is divided into 13 provinces and governed by an absolute family monarchy. The official language is Arabic and the capital city is Riyadh. Slightly more than one-fifth the size of the United States, it has a population of > 27.3 million with a median age of 26.4 years.1 The birth rate is 27.3/1,000 population (a growth rate of 1.9%) (2014).
