Abstract:

A hospitalized patient undergoing hemodialysis is at high risk for bacteremia, due to the frequent manipulation of the external catheter. Assessing competencies of contracted hemodialysis services is essential in preventing bacteremia is this patient population. Hospital clinical nurses and contracted dialysis staff must follow the evidence-based central line care maintenance bundle and hospital policy to prevent Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSIs).
