Abstract:

The advances in central catheter placement technology have presented clinicians and their facilities opportunities to aggressively challenge the gold standard paradigm of utilizing chest radiography for central catheter tip termination identification. There will always be challenges when employing chest radiography for placement verification. Challenges include parallax; quality of the radiographic image; technique used; unique patient anatomy that may include anatomical abnormalities; body habitus; and the presence of existing devices.
