Abstract:

Central venous catheters (CVCs) provide vascular access for fluid resuscitation, administration of vasopressors and other medications, enable hemodynamic monitoring and cardiac pacing, and provide access for blood sampling. Higher peak drug concentrations and shorter circulation times are achieved with CVCs compared to peripheral venous medication administration. Ultrasound-guided CVC (US-CVC) Seldinger based guidewire enabled catheter placement techniques allow differentiation between veins and arteries and improve US-CVC placement procedural safety.
