"As the population or patients with tattoos increase, providers are challenged with how to place an implantable port without altering or destroying the design of the tattoo within the operative field" Rash and Dickey (2020).
Abstract:

As the population or patients with tattoos increase, providers are challenged with how to place an implantable port without altering or destroying the design of the tattoo within the operative field. Cardiology, among other disciplines, experience similar challenges with pacemaker and defibrillator placement. In the case presented here, an adult male patient in need of double-lumen port placement presented with an extensive tattoo on the right upper chest (Fig 1). Of note, he had an additional tattoo on the left side in the same location.
