Background:

After seeing an increase of 2 central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) in a three month period, we conducted a root cause analysis with a multidisciplinary team to determine if there were any gaps in practice. The setting is a 31 bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within a 350-bed hospital. Both of the CLABSIs were determined to be line care and maintenance related, therefore we focused on our maintenance bundle practices.
