VuStik Inc.

VuStik Inc. has developed a machine that helps nurses decide where to stick a needle for intravenous access

or blood sampling. They advise that it is particularly useful for babies, dark-skinned patients and others with difficult-to-see veins, said Cameron Lewis, the company’s president and chief executive officer.

The device, which the company plans to start selling to clinics and hospitals for $8,000 in August, bounces near-infrared waves off a patient’s arm. Veins show on a video screen as dark lines surrounded by white tissue.
