Intravenous news: TheStandard.com.hk report “A nurse has cut a three-day-old baby’s thumb in yet another blunder at a public hospital. The girl – born last Wednesday – was in stable condition last night. The nurse has received counseling and been put on leave.

According to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the newborn was transferred to the Special Care Baby Unit for treatment for low blood sugar hours after her birth. Three days later, on Sunday, a nurse was removing an intravenous tube and splint from the baby’s left hand when she accidentally cut the tip of the infant’s thumb with a pair of scissors, resulting in a superficial skin wound of 0.5cm x 0.3cm.
