Vygon have just launched the VENE-K a single use, quick release tourniquet. The company suggest that the practice of “Venepuncture and cannulation are the two most invasive procedures performed in everyday practice within the NHS. Current statistics reveal that there are over 40 million procedures a year that involve the use of a tourniquet”. In addition tourniquets may harbour pathogenic organisms, and potentially put patients at risk of cross-contamination.
