Imports of Hospira’s Symbiq infusion pumps on hold because of unresolved manufacturing problems

Intravenous products: MedPage Today report “FDA Halts Infusion Pump Import. Problems at a Hospira manufacturing plant in Costa Rica prompted the FDA to block imports of the company’s Symbiq infusion pumps produced there, the company said. Hospira had already put the pumps, which had been the subject of a series of recalls since 2010, under a voluntary hold. But the FDA apparently considered that insufficient protection, ordering an import alert that prohibits their importation. All Symbiq pumps are made at the Costa Rican plant. The company emphasized that its other infusion pumps, as well as consumables for Symbiq pumps still in use, are not affected by the import alert.”
