Intravenous literature: Dumyati, G., Concannon, C. and Shelly, M. (2011) The Challenges in Implementing a Central Line Related Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI) Prevention Outside the ICU through a Multihospital Collaborative. AJIC: American Journal of Infection Control. 39(5), p.E138.
Prevention collaboratives have been successful in reducing CLABSI rates in ICUs by focusing on education, physician champions and multidisciplinary implementation of central line insertion bundle. Surveillance and prevention outside the ICU may require a different approach with nurses playing a key role. We describe the challenges encountered in a collaborative project to reduce CLABSI outside the ICU.
