Observational research in Japan recording peripheral intravenous catheterisation activities over a 3 month period, including frequency of, and reasons for, catheter replacement and incidence of catheter-related complications. Guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommending changing catheters at least every 96 hours are challenged. 4 refs.
