Creative individuals use a variety of strategies to improve clinical outcomes. These may include different methods of assessment, novel approaches to intervention or development of new clinical tools and devices. Each of these strategies can be employed to improve a patient’s experience, reduce complications or promote better device performance. This article focuses on new strategies, tools and products in the field of vascular access devices, and considers ways in which nurses can foster innovation in practice to improve patient outcomes.
