There has been an NPSA alert about wristbands in the UK recently

Trusts will have to be compliant with barcoding of patients, notes and blood very shortly.

Im still glad Im not in the US with a purple band on!!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the post and link. It is a shame it is not more of a success really - it is a good idea.

Kudos on the site too - looking excellent - very well structured.

This has happened in the UK also

Should there be a call from IV Nurses to ask manufacturers again about use of universal joints that allow IV medication to be givem through VP shunts, arterial lines, enteral feeding lines and epidurals?

I believe that each piece of kit should have a dedicated connector, to reduce the risk. ie. a round peg into a round hole and a square peg into a square one!

Extremely informative and with a sense of humour! An invaluable site with great links for additional literature support. It is ideal for any professional who is involved in IV therapy.
I will be passing on this address to all! Excellent work.
You're in my favourites!!!

Thank you for your message. I would try a no-sting barrier solution such as Cavilon http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_GB/Cavilon/skin-care/

It puts a sterile hypoallergenic layer between the patient and the adhesive of the dressing. Hope this helps.

I place PICC/PIV's. I just encountered an individual that had slight reddness and blistering around the perimeter of a dressing that wa subsequently taped down, what would be recommended for someone with an allergy to tegaderms', tape?. ANd There was only slt pain and erythema around the perimeter
YOUR VIP Score: great
