Intravenous products: In March 2009, Healthexec TV featured a case study that demonstrated how Vygon (UK) Ltd has worked with Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust to reduce their peripheral cannula bacteraemia rates by 78.6%. In addition, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust have since reported that their peripheral cannula MRSA bacteraemia rates have been zero for the last six months (May to 31st October 2009).

The film proved to be a great success, generating interest from NHS Trusts around the country who wanted to find out how they too could benefit from implementing such a simple solution.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is one example of a Trust that has followed in the footsteps of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, by introducing a custom cannulation pack to standardise their approach to cannula insertion and management. Since the introduction of the pack, which now includes ChloraPrep®, they have seen a significant reduction in their bacteraemia rates.
